Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, announced that the company is increasing the pay of its artificial intelligence engineers in an attempt to thwart OpenAI's attempts to steal ChatGPT from the startup.
In a series of X postings on Wednesday, the tech tycoon revealed the information, validating a claim from The Information that Ethan Knight, a machine learning scientist at Tesla, departed to work for Elon Musk's AI business, xAI.Musk stated, "Ethan was going to join OpenAI, so it was either xAI or them." "They have been actively seeking Tesla engineers and, regrettably, have been successful in some instances. They have been offering enormous compensation."

The "talent war for AI is the craziest talent war I've ever seen," Musk continued, adding that Tesla is increasing pay for its AI tech staff. After its ChatGPT chatbot became the fastest-growing software program globally within six months of its November 2022 launch, OpenAI is now regarded as the industry leader in generative AI. It spurred Google, Microsoft, and other startups to release their own competitive bots. Microsoft has made significant financial contributions totaling billions of dollars to OpenAI.Despite waves of layoffs in other sectors at big businesses over the past year, the AI frenzy has created a high demand for AI engineers.

Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI in 2015, however he departed the board in 2018. He is suing the business and CEO Sam Altman, claiming that by working with Microsoft, the group violated its original commitment to build AI for the good of humanity rather than for financial gain.
